200 Medium Articles Later …
I no longer care

It’s the height of the COVID-19 pandemic panic. My mind is threatening to implode from the forced idleness and the picture of my financial future is getting blurry as the naira plummets. On one of many sanity-resetting early morning walks in the gated residential estate that had now become my prison, I made up my mind to write more and earn dollar-denominated income from my wasting gifts.
With my mind made up, I resurrected my Medium account, dormant since 2016, and I joined the Medium Partner Program. Finding a way around its geo-discriminatory writer payment policies is a story for another day.
The good thing about starting out on Medium was that I wasn’t starting entirely from scratch.
Somehow, despite my inactivity, I already had 101 medium followers. They were mostly friends from my contact list that made up the first wave of followers when I joined. I also had over 500 published articles on Facebook, where I’d been publishing for over a decade. After sifting through the morass of the mostly random stuff I wrote on Facebook, there were only a handful of articles that I thought qualified for the kind of content I thought was best suited to Medium. The platform looked too serious to put up random articles about how heaven was an autocracy or my revision…
