3 Lessons I Learned Watching My Son Grow
Oluwatiere Munumidun Osundolire joined our family from yonder realms on the 17th of November, 2012. At birth, he was a little pink mound with black patches around his ears and six tiny digits that confirmed his father’s ancestry.
My most vivid recollection of his first day with us was how curious he looked. Babies don’t see much at birth scientists tell us, but there was something about those quiet little eyes that remains unforgettable.
That first year must’ve been the toughest year to date. He cried as if some Karmic hand tallied the discomfort his mother and I levied on our parents and was paying us back tenfold. In the many in-between moments of figuring out his needs and doctoring him on Google, he turned out to be great company before his younger brother came along three years later.
He didn’t grow teeth until he was eleven months old and it was hard not to compare notes with other parents who are happy to show off their daughters’ new teeth or their son’s genius at reciting alphabets only they could understand. In all, I’ve learned a few things by being an active participant and a privileged observer of our son’s amazing journey of growth.
