Cheating Is A Decision
It’s not that complicated
I’ve known my partner for 20 out of my 38 years, and cheating and adultery are issues that we’ve debated and contended with in all of those 20 years. Some of my assumptions and opinions will reflect personal experiences from a man’s viewpoint; they should not be taken as generally applicable to all men.
For context, cheating as used throughout this piece refers to the act of intimacy (mostly of a sexual kind) with others outside a committed relationship where there is an expectation of exclusivity by one or more of the parties involved. Others refer to the people we cheat with.
What is good for the goose …
As personal philosophy goes, I am of the goose and gander equity school of thought. I can bet that there are as many other men out there as there are other women.
That said, I will try to answer that age old question — why do people cheat?
