I need help!

3 words, a universe of possibilities

In my journey as a listener, I have heard these three words countless times as people share their most intimate stories of reaching breaking point before making a turnaround. At that point, they tell how their darkness has reached its gloomiest, how all their efforts have failed to achieve the desired results, and how (for many) they realize for the first time that it is possible not to have everything together and how one’s best efforts may not translate to the desired end result.

I need help.

For many, this plea could be a call out to the universe, God, a therapist, a trusted friend or a stranger. Regardless of the person, being or thing being called upon in our darkest moments, this call usually comes at the point of realization that we are not enough, that we are not as self-redeeming as we tend to think.

“I need help,” are the dying words in two kinds of deaths — the death of self that leads to a rearmament for victory over defeat or failure; or the death of resolve, where we give up on trying and fade until our body eventually follows our long departed souls. As short as it reads, “I need help” is the confession of self-realization.
