After Open AI launched Chat GPT to the public in 2020, AI (Artificial Intelligence) moved quickly up the leaderboard to join NFT, Crypto, Remote Work, and Metaverse on the list of most used technology buzzwords.

Enthusiasts praised the potential of this simple text-interface program and some took its application a little too far. The general sentiment, however, was less welcoming.

Universities debated how plagiarism will now be defined in a world where artificial intelligence could write entire essays from just a text prompt. Journalism and media practitioners spoke up against its unfettered adoption, citing its lack of capacity for ‘truth’ and potential for spreading misinformation.

Labor unions representing the Screenwriters’ Guild in the United States outlined their position on what roles AI should be restricted to in script development. They devoted two pages to “Artificial Intelligence” in a first-of-its-kind large-scale attempt by a labor union to pressure an industry to regulate and, in some cases, ban the use of AI as a replacement for workers.
