Like Waves on a Fading Shore
Mar 29, 2021
Grief washes in, fades my shore
Just a little more
Memories speak at strangest times
“You are no more.”
It drags me in, firm its clasp
I struggle, break free from its grasp
As its waters recede,
I close my eyes, and gasp
It will return. I know.
I am tempted to run as I watch it go
But I am the shore
Where does the shore go?
So I pray, in the words of the wind
To hold back these thoughts
That all be still
The sea, the shore, my memory.
Osundolire Ifelanwa for Dad, whom I still sorely miss.
