They ‘Really’ Don’t Understand

But who cares, your time is running out

The next time someone says, “You don’t understand,” believe them because you probably don’t.

We are wired to look outwards. We project our nature and our understanding on the people, places, and things around us. Our opinions are tainted by our subconscious subscriptions and we color the world with our biases even when we don’t know it.

It is our way of making sense of things.

Unfortunately, we don’t know this as much and as often as we ought to. We don’t acknowledge enough, the impossibility of re-creating the full set of circumstances that make others see things the way they do. Even when we say, “I understand,” what we really mean is, “I understand it my own way and this agrees with yours.” It is unlikely that our mutual understanding reaches a perfect resonance.

Case in Point

I’ve been on a creative drought for the better part of a year now. I know (or think I know) the cause of this drought. Busyness, instability of mind and soul, physical transitioning, starting over, and a falling away of the habitual patterns that made it easier to connect with the soul of the world in my past lives. All of those factors conspiring to wring me dry of any original thoughts left inside my balding head…
