When I’m Idling, it’s not that I’m lazy

A lot happens in the mind — and I don’t think teachers, managers, parents and people with oversight responsibility for others pay enough attention to this. Whether it be in school, the workplace, or anywhere people come together with the purpose of achieving a common goal, there is that tendency for leaders to not only define what everyone needs to do and when, BUT ALSO WANT TO DECIDE HOW. And deciding HOW is where the problem really lies because for every class of 100, or a workplace team of 12, there are as many HOWS as there are individuals within the group. Being sensitive to these differences while steering the group towards the objective is where the real work of leadership lies.

The Mind People alias “I don’t see you doing anything.”

These category of people do the work in their heads before ACTUALLY doing anything that others can see. I fall in this category and I have lots to say about the many times an asteroid of a deadline is hurtling towards the office or the home, and the captain is breathing fire down the nape of everyone’s neck, and I am just sitting quietly doing nothing. I can’t say how much this has riled other people in my life. Even my partner of 11…
